Getting started

What is Town Scryer?

Town Scryer is an AI-assisted tabletop roleplaying toolkit. You can play complete storytelling adventures where an AI acts as your storyteller, or use GM Forge to generate NPCs, locations, and items for games you run yourself.

Do I need a Game Master or other players?

No. Town Scryer can act as your Game Master, so you can play entirely solo. You can also invite friends to share a table and play together, with up to six characters per table.

Do I need an account to look around?

You can browse public worlds, stories, and GM resources, and use the free dice roller and D&D 5e character roller without signing up. Creating a table or generating a scene requires a free account.

How do I start playing?

Create a free account, choose a public world or write your own prompt, create a character, and describe what your character does. The AI writes a scene in response, and the story continues from there. Sign up to start playing.

How play works

How does a scene work?

Each scene waits for one submission per character. Once everyone has submitted, the AI resolves the scene into a story response, locks it, and opens a fresh scene. The app automatically tracks characters, NPCs, locations, objectives, and prior events to keep the story consistent over time.

Can I edit my character after the story starts?

You can freely edit a character's name, description, background, inventory, and stats before the first scene resolves. After that, character editing locks, because the story engine tracks your character over time to keep the world consistent.

What is a world?

A world is the genre, tone, lore, and atmosphere your adventure takes place in. You can pick a public world from the worlds gallery or, as a member, create your own.

Can I share my stories?

Your tables are private by default. When you want to share one, you can turn on a share-with-link so anyone holding the invite code can read it, or publish it as a public story page that appears in the public stories showcase.

Is there audio narration?

Members can enable auto audio on a table. When it's on, each new scene resolution gets AI audio narration. It is off by default for new tables.

What is Spicy Mode?

Spicy Mode is a member-only, adult-focused storytelling option you can toggle per table.

GM Forge

What is GM Forge?

GM Forge is our toolset for assisting human Game Masters. It generates NPCs, locations, and objects on demand, and provides sessions, editable saved entities, tags, aspects, search, public sharing, a dice roller, and a conversational assistant called Spark.

Which tabletop systems does GM Forge support?

GM Forge supports Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition, Pathfinder 1st and 2nd Edition, Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition, Blades in the Dark, Fate Core, Vampire: The Masquerade V5, Dungeon World, MÖRK BORG, Troika!, Traveller, and Vaesen, with more added over time.

Tokens & pricing

How do tokens work?

Tokens are the credits used for AI generation. Scene submissions, character generation, GM Forge entities and images, and Spark messages each cost a small number of tokens. Scene submission tokens are only deducted when the resolution succeeds. See the pricing page for current costs.

How many free tokens do I get?

Every confirmed signup starts with 250 free tokens, which is enough to try out the full product before deciding to buy more.

Do tokens expire?

No. Tokens never expire.

What is the difference between a membership and a token bundle?

Memberships are monthly plans that deposit a fresh token allowance at the start of each billing cycle and unlock member features like custom worlds, Spicy Mode, auto audio, and unlimited tables. Token bundles are one-time, stackable purchases with no expiry. Compare options on the pricing page and in the shop.

How do I cancel my membership?

You can cancel from your account settings. Cancelling stops the plan at the end of the current billing period, and any tokens already in your wallet stay until you spend them.
