Description

Shee’La has smooth-one-way, rough-the-other sharklike skin, Rebecca Purple with Pompadour Purple patterns and shimmering cyan markings; Ultramarine freckles ringed in Sky Blue frame her amethyst eyes, pale near-white pink irises and sclera, slit nostrils, pointed lips, and sharp teeth. Her backward-angled ears, expressive transparent cheek fins, five webbed clawed fingers, four webbed clawed toes, muscular thighs, ridged shins, cape-like tail, and ten layered translucent wings are paired with a neck-ridge of deep-black hair braided with feathers, shells, minata flowers, and bubbles.

Hook

Shee'La has no instinct and is discovering life through the eyes of a new born. She means good but many things she does like learning how to make tools damage the environment and cause damage she must later repair

Motivation

Her inquisitive, analytical nature drives her to study how tools and technology work, though she is naive and must learn by observation rather than instinctively knowing what others know.

Melee

woven staff +30 (10d6+10 bludgeoning, 200/x2), bite +20 (10d4+10 piercing, 200/x2)

Special Qualities

Semi-amphibious; absorbs energy and nutrients through her skin from light and filtered Tifa; eats local flora. Swakami gestate in Ma’Lifa flower pods and emerge fully formed at adolescence. Cannot survive swimming in Tifa streams.

Tactics

Shee’La prefers to observe, ask questions, and use tools rather than begin a fight; if cornered, she glides out of reach and uses her staff defensively. She avoids Tifa channels and does not assume she understands unfamiliar behavior without watching it first. If she is put in a position where she must attack in order to survive, she is surprisingly capable of destruction and defeating enemies. She is an incredibly strong magic and physical fighter.

GM Notes

- Her ten wings provide flight, not safety in Tifa currents.
- Her emotional markings make it difficult to conceal strong feelings.
- She learns through careful observation; give her questions, not automatic insight.
Shee’La is the central protagonist of the Chronicles of Ka'thil, a unique Swakami born from a damaged Ma’Lifa flower pod whose "birth defect" grants her individuality, cognitive curiosity, and an experimental mindset in a world driven by instinct.
Physical Appearance & Traits
Species Anatomy: As a Swakami, she possesses sleek, shark-like skin (which can defensively harden into thick scale plating during extreme physical turbulence) with a Rebecca Purple base, Pompadour Purple patterns, and spot markings that shift colors to reveal her inner emotions. She has webbed hands with blunt claws, a cape-like muscular tail, and ten translucent, layered wings.
Facial Features: She has large amethyst eyes with pale pink irises/sclera, small angled ears, expressive soft cheek fins, and long black mane-like hair growing down her neck.
Expressions & Demeanor: Driven by curiosity and "unknowing," she is frequently seen with wide, dazed eyes, raised eyebrows, or a mouth open in wonder, confusion, or laughter.
Key Characteristics & Role
The "Shee’La Anomaly": Unlike other Swakami who live by innate "resonance instinct," Shee’La suffers from a biological disconnect during incubation that leaves her without pre-programmed environmental knowledge. Because she does not instinctively know things, she must ask questions, experiment, and learn through trial and error.
Innovator & Toolmaker: Her cognitive deviation drives her to develop the realm’s first medical science, herbal remedies, and physical tools or weapons. She also learns symbiotic medicinal arts directly from the Hintana healers.
Clumsy & Careless Dynamics: Her lack of innate environmental harmony causes her to accidentally harm flora and fauna (such as ruining vines or accidentally hurting Ka'el), causing elders like Rumi’Maa to view her as reckless and disruptive.
Bond with No'Vila: She shares an intense, deeply protective bond with No'Vila, who guides her, defends her mistakes from the community, and comforts her when she is confused or scared.
Tragic Descent & Grief: Following the loss/death of No'Vila, Shee’La experiences extreme trauma, grief-driven rage, memory lapses, and severe hallucinations of No'Vila's phantom. Driven mad by grief, she begins using animal bones and torn flora to build weapons of destruction, damming the Maw, and killing anything in her path in periods of uncontrolled hostility and crying.

1. Incubation, Damaged Pod, and Birth
Shee’La’s story begins inside the pod of a blooming Ma’Lifa flower in the realm of Chi’Thi. During her incubation, a physical collision event damages her pod, interrupting her incubation with light and structural interference. While standard Swakami receive "resonance instinct" (an innate, pre-programmed understanding of the environment and community norms), this damage causes a biological disconnect known as the Shee'La Anomaly.
She emerges as an adolescent without pre-programmed instincts, acquiring cognitive curiosity, uncertainty, an experimental mindset, and the capacity for individual choice. Upon emerging, she imprints immediately on No'Vila, who welcomes her and forms a close, loving bond with her—the first consciously chosen, non-instinctual affection in Swakami history.
2. Childhood in Chi’Thi & Banishment
Living among the Swakami, Shee’La struggles to fit into a community that relies on innate environmental harmony:
* Lack of Restraint: She routinely causes accidental destruction—such as snapping branches during play, startling other Swakami, or hurting flora—leading elders like Rumi’Maa to label her careless, disruptive, and dangerous.
* The Jarba Bird Incident & Murder: While playing in the Playful Forest, Shee’La unintentionally breaks a Jarba Bird egg. Swakami law and instinct dictate that no being kills. Shocked by the event, Rumi’Maa confronts Shee’La, forcing her to look at the dead egg. Viewing this unintended act as murder and proof that Shee’La's lack of restraint poses a lethal threat to the species, Rumi’Maa orders her banishment.
* Exile with No'Vila: No’Vila refuses to be separated from Shee’La, and the two are exiled together into the broader wilderness.
3. Exiled Pilgrimage, Innovation, and Exploration
During their exile, Shee’La and No’Vila travel into new regions:
* The Hintana Healers: They encounter the Hintana, who teach Shee’La medicinal practices.
* Invention of Technology: When No’Vila is severely injured and unconscious, Shee’La breaks a tree branch to use as a tool/weapon to save her. This marks the first use of tools, weapons, and medical technology in Ka'thil.
* Resource Exploitation: Shee’La begins crafting tools and medicines, but she fails to realize the difference between renewable harvest and destructive extraction. No’Vila notices that Shee’La's inventions are causing local ecological harm and asks her to stop. Though Shee’La agrees out of love, she fails to grasp the broader consequences.
4. Return to the Dwellings & Tribal Conflict
Shee’La and No’Vila return to the Swakami dwellings to share what they have learned:
* Cultural Influence: While exiled, their love and physical closeness inspire the rest of the Swakami community to explore affection, touch, and personal connection for the first time.
* Tension & The New Brood: During a new bloom cycle, a younger brood of Swakami is born. Uninfluenced by Luma-Kai's attempts at peace, this new brood harbors an innate aversion to Shee’La and No’Vila.
* Tragedy at The Maw: The new brood attacks Shee’La and No’Vila while they are playing in the Playful Forest. Shee’La and No’Vila kill one of the attackers in self-defense. In retaliatory rage, another member of the brood attempts to tackle Shee’La into The Maw (a 15-mile abyss where water recycles). No’Vila shoves Shee’La out of the way, taking the blow and falling into the abyss to her death.
5. Descending into Madness & Damming the Maw
Overcome by trauma and grief, Shee’La snaps:
* Retaliation & Hallucinations: She brutally kills the remaining attacker, crafts weapons out of animal bones, and slays wild creatures (such as Rotheeras).
* Psychotic Break: Shee’La experiences alternating periods of lucid grieving and severe hallucinations. During her hallucinations, she sees a "phantom" version of No’Vila surrounded by glittering particles in an uncorrupted landscape. The phantom encourages her hostility and prompts her to seek revenge on Rumi’Maa.
* Ecological Destruction: In her grief, Shee’La seeks to stop the flow of the abyss, damming The Maw with debris, rocks, and dead organic matter until the blue light vanishes and the whirlpool calms. This disrupts Ka'thil's natural recycling system, causing a realm-wide environmental collapse. The world loses its light and vibrant color, transforming Ka'thil and its inhabitants into dull, sickened shells.
6. Final Confrontation and Legacy
* Death: Luma-Kai witnesses the destruction of Ka'thil and attempts to stop Shee’La. The remaining Swakami overwhelm Shee’La, kill her, and bury her alongside Rumi’Maa.
* Restoration of Ka'thil: Realizing the consequences of their mutual hostility and neglect, the surviving Swakami—led by Luma-Kai—work together using vines to undam The Maw. Color and life return to Ka'thil.
* A New Era: The surviving Swakami adopt Shee’La's analytical mindset, developing sustainable medicine, sewing, and tool-making without resource exploitation. The subsequent birth of "The Boy" (the first male Swakami) introduces gender and polarity to the realm, balancing the evolutionary changes set in motion by Shee’La's life.
