Properties
  • Cosmic Conduit: While attuned, you gain a +2 bonus to spell attack rolls and your spell save DC; the staff can serve as a spellcasting focus for star magic, void magic, or ordinary magic.
  • Star-Void Reservoir: The staff has 7 charges and regains 1d6 + 1 expended charges daily at dawn. You can expend charges to cast darkness, crown of stars, or hunger of Hadar from it, using your spellcasting ability.
  • Dragon's Eclipse: Once per dawn, you can command the crystal to release a 30-foot-radius sphere of swirling starlight and absolute void for 1 minute. The area is heavily obscured to creatures of your choice, while you and chosen allies can see normally; hostile creatures that enter it take 3d10 radiant or necrotic damage, chosen when the effect begins, once per turn.
Attunement Requirements

By a spellcaster capable of casting at least one spell; the staff accepts only a bearer it deems worthy.

Description

A tall, black staff of twisted shadow-metal rises into an elaborate, skeletal dragon whose jaws cradle a spherical crystal glowing with miniature galaxies, nebulae, and countless drifting stars. Layered clawlike branches and spectral, wing-shaped spines coil around the crown, evoking the lost Star-lit Aasimars and the forgotten power of the Old Gods.

Hook

The staff's crystal has begun displaying a constellation that matches no known sky, and every night its dragon crown whispers the name of a forgotten god.

History

Ancient records claim the crystal was shaped from a fragment of pre-world darkness and lit with starfire by a vanished Star-lit Aasimar clan. Some scholars believe the dragon crown is not ornamental but the petrified skull of an Old God sworn to guard the universe imprisoned within the sphere.

Quirk

The galaxies inside the crystal subtly rearrange themselves into unfamiliar constellations whenever an ancient deity, primordial being, or dimensional breach is nearby.

GM Notes

- The staff is neutral: its powers can shield a kingdom, erase an army, or open a path into the void depending on Tay'Vari's choices.
- The Old Gods and surviving cosmic entities may recognize the artifact and seek to reclaim, destroy, or awaken what is sealed inside it.
- The crystal's starfire can be mistaken for human dark magic, making Tay'Vari a target of fearful authorities and prejudiced factions in Bane.
